Facilities

Our state of the art Sports Hall was completed in March 2006 and provides all boys at Moulsford with access to a huge array of sports and activities. All PE lessons take place in the Sports Hall with activities including gymnastics, basketball, badminton and indoor football, to name just a few. There are 4 cricket nets which are used all year round for general coaching sessions and team practices. Individual tuition also takes place with boys having access to a bowling machine. The Sports Hall is also equipped to host fencing events and has 7 integrated pistes. These are used weekly at our Fencing club which includes our younger boys during the afternoon and representatives of the national squads, later in the evening. Judo is another activity that takes place in the hall and again involves boys from Year 2 to Year 8, including a number of national medallists.
The Sports Hall can also be used for major school functions and can be hired as a venue for outside events. It can seat up to 300 people.
The purpose built Art Room is used by all the Pupils from Year 3
upwards, providing a stimulating and functional environment in which
to work. There is an adjoining Kiln room and a balcony area for
individual study and the storage of resources.
This contains the reference section of the School Library and a class
set of computers. Boys come here do research for class projects,
coursework and to make use of on-line learning materials. It can be
booked in advance for use by a whole class or boys can use it
individually when the need arises.
The heated outdoor pool was completed in the Spring of 2006 and is used throughout the summer and during the early part of the Autumn Term. It is hoped that we will be able to get permission to install a moveable cover over the pool to allow for swimming throughout the year.
The astro turf includes four tennis courts and is also used for hockey and the boys break times.
We are fortunate to have plenty of playing fields to use for the many sports and activities that are on offer at Moulsford. The ‘far’ field holds five senior rugby pitches and 4 junior rugby pitches, as well as a number of training areas. During the summer months this is used for cricket and has two of the five recently refurbished wickets for the boys to use. The ‘back’ field is used for the 1st XI football and 1st XV rugby pitch as well as a number of trainign areas. It also has the 3rd XI cricket wicket. The fields at the front of the school are used for U9 rugby and U9 football matches and are home to the Colts and 1st XI cricket squares. There is certainly plenty of outside space for the boys to enjoy.
Moulsford Preparatory School now has two fully refurbished Science
Laboratories. Both laboratories are fitted with SMART boards and
digital projectors to bring interactive learning to life. Each is
designed for a maximum of 18 pupils. Pupils regularly carry out
practical work, safely and accurately in this spacious environment.
The Design and Technology room is a purpose built space used by pupils from Year 3 up to Year 8. It has work benches for up to 16 pupils and a drawing table at the front of the room. There are 3 bench saws, a pillar drill and two CAD/CAM machines for the pupils to use as well as a variety of hand tools which are all kept locked securly in the store cupboard. It is a very light, stimulating and functional working area.
The Music School consistes of a large, well equipped Music classroom, an Ensemble Room and 4 smaller Practice/Teaching Rooms.
The Music Department enjoys the benfit of an Interactive Whiteboard and Music Software technologies. There are also several Electronic Keyboards, an Electronic Drum Kit and a Harp, as well as a range of the more traditional classroom instruments.
All timetabled Music Lesson are given by the Director of Music in the Music Room, whilst Individual Instrumental Tuition, on a wide range of both orchestral and ‘pop’ instruments, takes place in the smaller Practice Rooms, and is given by the 11 Visiting Music Teachers.
This is the main Information Technology teaching suite. All classes are taught ICT as a curriculum subject in this room. It can be booked for work in other subjects when access to computers is required.
The library is available for boys to use every day and is well stocked with many new and exciting books, as well as classics and poetry books. There are plenty of current magazines and newspapers to browse through at breaktimes or during a class library period and lots of CD and story tapes to listen to. Over the summer 2007, the library was repainted and newly furnished and now looks really smart and modern.
