Three quarters of the pupils are day boys, arriving each morning between 8.00 and 8.30am. A significant number take advantage of the excellent transport system that the school provides.
Departure times vary between 3.30 and 5.30pm, depending on the age of the boy and whether or not he stays for hobbies or prep. There is no Saturday school.
For many families, weekly boarding provides the right balance between home and school. Boys may board from Year 4 onwards and many choose this option. The Boarding House is run by two Housemasters who work hard to create a warm and homely atmosphere with their families. They, in turn, are supported by a matron and other duty staff.
There is a class of four year olds (Reception), a class for five year olds (Cubs), and a class for six year olds (Lions) following the National Curriculum to Key Stage 1. After a further intake of approximately 24 boys at age seven, Year 3 is divided into two parallel classes. Boys in Year 4 are then set for their Maths and French and as they move up through the school they then become streamed right across the curriculum. In Year 7and 8 the boys are split into three classes, one Scholarship and two Common Entrance groups. This structure allows every boy to have the best possible opportunity to reach his potential and to work in groups commensurate with his ability.

A House system operates within the school and each boy is placed in one of four Houses. There are various activities during the year where all boys have the opportunity to represent their House. All boys can earn house points for good conduct and good behaviour which count towards the House Shield.
We aim to keep the uniform as simple and as practical as possible. The main school outfitters are John Lewis of Reading and Campus Clothing for sports wear. There is also an extremely good second hand clothes department which is run by a group of parents. A comprehensive clothing list can be obtained from school.
All meals are freshly cooked in school by an experienced caterer and are of a high quality. There is always a choice, including a variety of salads every day. There is also a fresh fruit option for pudding and any special dietary requirements are catered for. We have “family dining” with a member of staff responsible for a table of about 10 boys.
