Moulsford Preparatory School

Classics Department

Head of Classics:  Mr S. Dismorr

Classical Studies and Latin at MPS is taught to boys in Years 5 to 8. The syllabus taught is based on the ISEB Common Entrance syllabus.

Aims

Our aims in teaching Classics at Moulsford are that all the children taught within the department will:

  • find the study of Latin and the Classical World both fun and rewarding.
  • have their linguistic skills required for both English and other modern languages improved through the study of Latin.
  • develop a greater ability to solve problems through a logical and systematic approach.
  • gain knowledge of how the Romans lived their lives, and how, as a people, they were able to create a mighty empire.
  • appreciate the legacy of the Classical World and thereby understand the impact which the Ancient Greeks and Romans have had on our Modern World.
  • leave Moulsford wishing to continue the study of a Classics based subject at their next school.
