Science at Moulsford Preparatory School is taught in two well resourced Science laboratories. The syllabus taught is based on the National Curriculum and ISEB Common Entrance Syllabus.

Aims

Our aims in teaching Science at Moulsford Preparatory School:

• Pupils will find Science fun and be able to carry out as much practical work as possible.

• Teaching staff will endeavour to develop a set of attitudes in the pupils which promote scientific ways of thinking. These will include: Open mindedness, perseverance, objectivity and a recognition of the importance of teamwork.

• This will fuel the pupils` sense of curiosity and enthusiasm and hopefully lead to an understanding that Science is going on all around them in everyday life.

• Pupils are able to follow and understand scientific procedures. They can make careful observations, alter experimental procedures and make valid conclusions based on scientific reasoning and the evaluation of evidence.

• Pupils are able to recall scientific facts, ideas and data through speaking, writing and interpretation of data.

• Once the fundamentals have been established, pupils will be able to apply these concepts to other situations, make and test hypotheses and therefore make valid conclusions based on the information they have found out.
