Art Trip

St Ives

We have all managed to negotiate the journey from Didcot to Reading and are now aboard the train to Cornwall. We have the prospect of a four hour journey to look forward to but all the boys seem to be enjoying themselves. Mr Clements has managed to smear Dairy Lea all over his trousers and all attempts to clear it up are just making the situation worse.

Saturday 14th February

What a fantastic day!! After a lovely cooked breakfast we headed off to the Tate St Ives and the boys were given a workshop on Ben Nicholson, an artist who spent much of his life living here.

From here we enjoyed lunch on the quayside and spent the afternoon in the Barbara Hepworth museum. The boys are behaving impeccably and we couldn’t ask for more from the accommodation.

All of us are watching England and Wales do battle on the rugby pitch and Mr Clements doesn’t appear too confident!! Weather permitting, we will head out for a walk after dinner. I don’t think bedtime will be too far away tonight as some of the boys are fairly tired!!

Sunday 15th February

With the disappointment of the rugby behind him, Mr Clements led us to the St Ives School of Painting this morning. The boys spent the morning looking at drawing still life images using a variety of media and continuous line.

Lunch was once again taken by the sea and we then headed back to the School of Painting.

The afternoon was mainly based on painting a seascape viewed through a window and using many different techniques to gain a variety of effects.

Mr Kirk’s artistic ability has improved greatly over the course of the trip and Mr Clements is currently considering whether to let him take over as Head of Art in September. Watch this space.

The group are heading back tomorrow and all involved have had a fantastic time. The trip has been a great success.

Monday 16th February – 12.00pm

All the boys are safely aboard the train home a little tired but having had an absolutely brilliant weekend. We are aiming to be back at Didcot Station at around 3.30pm.
