Fundraiser for Diabetes UK

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, the Moulsford Community joined together to support Diabetes UK at ‘The Barn Fitness Club’ in Cholsey for a Fundraising 24 hour Classathon.  Moulsford parent, Nichola I’Anson decided to get a team together, ‘Team Ozzie’, to take part in this challenge as she “wanted to do something mentally and physically challenging to empathise with Oscar and his daily battle with diabetes.”

Over 120 friends and family, including many Moulsford staff, joined Nichola for as many classes as they wanted to do over the 24 hours with some staying for 10 hour stints, throwing themselves into any class going, regardless of their fitness levels or co-ordination skills. The target for ‘Team Ozzie’ was to complete 100 classes and to raise £500.  The final total was 225 classes completed in 24 hours and the donations total nearly £4,000 to date with still more coming through! Every penny raised will help fund research into finding a cure and this amount will really make a difference to funding research into finding a cure for Diabetes, which is very close. If anyone would still like to donate please go to:  https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/teamozzie

Nichola said “I totally underestimated the generosity of pretty much everyone we know, and how far they would go to support us, both through incredibly generous donations to physically stepping, spinning, crunching, skipping, punching and stretching alongside me sometimes for hours on end; in the middle of the night, including a bunch of Ozzie's mates and teachers!  There were mainly highs and a few lows (both physical and mental) throughout the 24 hours but I honestly could not have done it without all those people who were there with me physically and got me through the hours. Having people there spurred me on to keep going and not give up. It is something I will never forget. I had to dig deep mentally to keep going, but the thought of Oscar and how he just does not have the option of giving up on coping with diabetes got me through.”

It was great to see so many of the Moulsford family there with teachers, parents and pupils all doing their part to raise money for such a great charity, with many staying on to do more than they had originally committed to.  Moulsford staff finally posted just over 100 hours of classes over the whole 24 hours.
