Sports Updates: 2007-08

Summer Term 2008
The cricket season began well with early season matches going ahead in bright sunshine. The first games of the season were played against Ludgrove and results did not go to plan. However, the boys learnt a great deal and moved on to the next fixture, this time against The Dragon. Again our opponents were very strong but there were superb wins for the 3rds and 4ths and Colts C’s and D’s. Chris Humphreys was a stand out performer, taking 5 wickets and receiving a cricket ball in assembly to recognise this wonderful achievement. Well done, Chris!
Fingers crossed for brighter skies for this weekend’s fixtures against Papplewick!
Rosslyn Park cancelled
Unfortunately, due to the gales and terrential rain, the organisers decided to cancel the Prep School 7’s at Rosslyn Park yesterday. This was a great disappointment to all of the boys hoping to compete but a sensibe decision considering the condition of the flooded pitches. The 1st VII had a very successful start to the season in our own competition but then struggled at Caldicott and at St. John’s, Northwood. There is a huge a amount of talent in the side and they all worked very hard throughout the season.
Colts Seven Victorious
Congatulations to the Colts Seven for winning the St.Johns Northwood Sevens competition. The whole squad played with real comittment and visibly improved throughout the afternoon. They deserved their medals and the trophy and we now hope that we can build on this success.
Hockey Fixtures
We are going to be taking a squad to play in the U11 Bradfield Six-a-Side Hockey Tournament on Sunday 9th March.
We also have two fixtures against Cothill, purely for fun, on Saturday 15th March, starting at 2.30, at Cothill, for the U10s.
Farleigh 7’s cancelled
The Colts and Senior 7’s competiton at Farleigh, scheduled for Saturday 8th March, has been cancelled.
Additions to the fixture list
Please have a look at the changes to the fixture list. They include Senior matches on Wednesday 27th February and U11 and U10 matches on Saturday 8th March. All matches are against Shrewsbury House with the U11’s and U10’s playing at 10.30am.
Congratulatons to the Colts A team
Congratulations to the Colts A for qualifying for the National Finals on Sunday 2nd March. They played incredibly well, especially in the last few minutes of their semi-final, when they scored two tries to win 14-7 and secure their place in the finals!
Sadly the U9 As and the 1st XV did not quite manage to qualify, but well done to all the boys who tried their hardest on the day.
Finally, thank you to all the parents for their support on a very cold day and a particular thank you to the Colts parents for providing such a wonderful pic-nic lunch!
U9’s Victorious at Shrewsbury House!
.
On Friday 18th January, the U9 Rugby Team went to Shrewsbury House School to participate in their annual U9 tournament. After a slow start, they powered through the group with a great performance against Hall Grove and a convincing win against Newland House. The final was between ourselves and Shrewsbury House. It was deadlocked until deep into extra time when Aaron Gayle powered over to score and take the trophy away from Shrewsbury House for the first time.
Squad: Charlie Stott (captain), Tom Hale, Aaron Gayle, Toby Ryan, Rory Finch, Fenton Glover, Nick Butler, Oliver Potter, Oliver Simpson, Ben Scrivener, George Probyn
