Process of Moving Schools

Choosing a new school often goes hand in hand with relocation to a new area. With excellent transport links, both national and international, and a wide range of top senior schools nearby, the beautiful Thames Valley countryside around Moulsford is very appealing to families looking to move schools and relocate from London and elsewhere.

One hour from Central London: Over the last few years we have seen an increase in parents choosing Moulsford after relocating from London. The idyllic Oxfordshire countryside is a natural draw for parents looking for a different pace of life, but still within commutable distance of the City.

Top Senior Schools nearby: Moulsford is a great choice for parents looking for a smooth transition into the next stage of their child's education. Geographically we are well placed for some of the top senior schools in the UK and our boys go on to a wide variety of both boarding and day schools.  Moulsford and the surrounding areas are well placed for transport links to day schools in Oxford, Abingdon and Reading. We will try to make the procedure for moving schools mid-term as stress free as possible for your family.

Relationships with Estate and Property Search Agents: We have close connections with a number of local estate agents and property search agents and our Registrar can work flexibly with you to ensure that your son is settled into the school within time scales that fit around your move. We aim to make the transition seamless even if you wish to move schools mid year.

What is the procedure for moving schools mid year?

The majority of children join the school in September, although it is not uncommon for pupils to join in either January or April. Please contact the Registrar to discuss what availability we have to join a year group mid-year.

How does moving schools affect a child?

Moving schools can be a very positive experience but we also understand that it can be unsettling. We work together with parents and staff to ensure a smooth transition and keep a watchful eye on both the academic and pastoral side in order to minimise any disruption. We find that the children often settle in quickly and firmly establish themselves as part of the Moulsford community, whatever their age

How to support a child moving schools?

We encourage potential new pupils to visit the school several times before joining us, either as a one-off taster day or as part of the whole school ‘Move Up Day’ in the summer before a September start. That way children are familiar with their surroundings and can get to know staff and their peers. We also put parents in touch with each other so that playdates can be arranged.

What is the process for switching from State to private school?

The process for joining Moulsford from a State school is the same as joining from another independent school. If there are any gaps in learning we work with your child to make sure he is up to speed and we keep an open dialogue between staff.
