SMT Pre-Prep

A varied, fun and exciting programme

Since the CE exams ended, boys in Year 8 have been following an off time table program of activities, designed to be fun, educational and with something for everyone. They started by spending 3 days in the forest, sleeping in bracken dens and cooking pigeon on fires they had built themselves. They spent the rest of the week taking part in a variety of DT challenges, working alongside the girls from Cranford House.

This week they have taken part in their own Eurovision Song Contest, re-enacted the Battle of Trafalgar on the river, and learnt the recovery position during First Aid training, as well as visiting Whipsnade Zoo.

The highlight of the week was a visit by BeatFeet, an African drumming workshop. Jude, who runs the company, turned up with 45 djembe drums in the back of her van. The boys spent a fantastic 2 hours fully immersed in the music and beats of African drumming. They played together, individually and as groups, making up rhythms and chants along the way and performing the South African national anthem beautifully!
