Kit S swaps Moulsford Prep for Crunchem Hall in Matilda the Musical

Kit S (Year 7) is playing ‘Tommy’ in the first ever UK and Ireland Tour of Matilda the Musical, the multi-award winning musical from the Royal Shakespeare Company, inspired by the much-loved book by Roald Dahl. The Tour began in Spring 2018 and, after new dates were added to extend the run until next year, Kit was one of 19 new children recruited to replace the outgoing original cast, with an initial contract that will last till April 2019. Click here to see Kit’s Cast List entry.

Our talented Kit beat off huge competition nationally from like-minded boys to win the part after a very intensive and gruelling round of auditions in London which first began in April.  He was thrilled to be offered the role of Tommy which is a very strong dance-orientated role. Kit moved into a cast flat in London with 9 of the other boys and girls and several chaperones and tutors in late June and spent the entire summer learning and rehearsing the role all day every day apart from Sundays! He made his professional debut on 31st August in front of his very proud parents and an audience of over 1,800 people in a sold-out Birmingham Hippodrome. He is absolutely loving being a part of the cast! Not a jot of nerves or stage-fright apparently! The Tour moves onto Manchester next week and is currently booked to play at another seven venues nationwide.  Click here for tickets.  After this week back at Moulsford, Kit will return to Crunchem Hall and will alternate between the two for the coming months.

Kit does LAMDA here at Moulsford and got a high Distinction in his Grade Two Solo Musical Theatre exam in the summer. He also takes singing lessons with our Pop Vocals teacher, Josie Smith.  He was the well-deserved winner of Moulsford’s Got Talent last term for his acrobatic dance routine. He has previously been in ‘Beauty and the Beast’ at the Henley Children’s Theatre, and in Bugsy Malone at the Newbury Corn Exchange with Rare Productions Musical Youth Theatre group, but the part in Matilda is Kit’s first professional role.

Head of Year 7, Henry Weeks, is looking into the possibility of planning a trip for the year group to see Kit on stage and says ‘Kit is doing incredibly well juggling his commitments and we, as a school, are doing all we can to support his busy schedule’.
