Head's Blog

I am delighted to report that all the Year 8 boys have been successful in the Common Entrance exams in gaining entry to their senior schools. Boys will be progressing to the following schools this year: Abingdon, Bradfield, Cokethorpe, Eton, Marlborough, The Oratory, Pangbourne, Radley, Shiplake, St. Edwards Oxford and Stowe. In addition, boys who took scholarships earlier in the year will be going to Magdalen College School and Wellington. Many congratulations to all the boys for their hard work, and to the staff who have prepared them so well over the years. It was a pleasure to give the boys the good news this afternoon.

This is the first year that boys have taken just the English, Maths and Science Common Entrance Exams. For languages (French, Spanish and Latin) and the Humanities subjects (History, Geography and Religious Studies), the boys have been assessed internally. In developing the Moulsford Humanities curriculum, we have been liaising closely with our senior school colleagues and on Tuesday, we hosted Andrew Gist (Head of the Year 9 Form Programme at Marlborough); Tom Norton (Head of History at Radley); Ed Venables, (Director of Admissions at Wellington); and Hugh Stephens (Head of Geography at St. Edward’s, Oxford).

Our guests had discussions with the Heads of Moulsford History, Geography and Religious Studies departments as well as conversations and mini presentations from boys in Years 6, 7 and 8. This was a quite excellent day during which all parties learned a great deal from each other. There was a ringing endorsement from the senior school staff for the approach that Moulsford is taking to this area of the curriculum; please click here for a news report from the day. Thank you to Mr Weeks for organising this brilliant event.
