2 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze National Medals and overall Team Champions

Our Moulsford Judo Team were back in action last Saturday at the National IAPS Judo Championship at High Wycombe. It seemed such a long time ago that we were able to enter a team into this prestigious competition and meet other schools in battle on the tatami (Judo Mat).

The day started with the Band A boys with Zac M getting us started by taking a well fought Gold which was all the more amazing as he only started judo a couple of terms ago. That was closely followed in the next weight group with George A taking a very hard fought Bronze medal. Harry C as ever fought extremely well and lost a very hard battle in the final to take Silver. Xander D who has just come back from injury fought extremely well and finally took the Bronze medal in his weight group. Benjy M fought well to battle through to a well and hard earned Silver medal.

For the Band B boys, Henry A didn’t make the weight and went up a weight group which meant he was the smallest and lightest in that group. However, he fought extremely well and ended up taking a Bronze in one of the toughest weight groups of the day. Angus L took the Silver in the same weight group and to show you how hard that weight group was Angus was the current National Champion in that group. Noah B and Archie DP ended up in the final of their weight group and had one of the longest battles of the day. Having ended their three-minute contest, they went into golden score, which went on and on. Both of the boys were looking exhausted when Archie managed to throw Noah to take the Gold with Noah taking the Silver medal.

Hector B who, like Xander and Zac, hasn’t been learning Judo for as long as many of our team fought his way through to take a Bronze medal – I don’t know who was happier him or me! Oscar G and Finley A, who were valuable members of our team, fought extremely well but sadly it just wasn’t their day to medal.  I did feel their pain and understand their disappointment with not taking a medal, but look forward boys, carry on training hard and you will get there.  It just wasn’t your day but your day will come, you are very talented and amazing Judoka.

Our boys were amazing and did well to take so many medals in such a tough competition. It was a fantastic result, especially as Moulsford were overall winners of the team competition.  Well done to all of our very tough Judo Team.
