Head's Blog: Life in the Pre-Prep

Head's Blog

Mince pie season is approaching, and across the school, the children have been busy rehearsing for their upcoming Christmas productions, which for many of our Pre-School and Reception children will be their first time on stage. Our youngest pupils have been working hard practising their lines and learning their songs and we are looking forward to watching their confidence grow as they perform for a (very appreciative) audience. Years 1 - 4 have also been busy preparing for their very special nativity, play and concert performances, and boys in Years 5 – 8 will lead us at Pangbourne Chapel for what is always a lovely Carol Service. Please click here for details of all these upcoming events.

Highlights of my week always include my visits to the Pre-Prep. One can’t help but feel enthused and energised having spent time in the company of the smallest members of our community. Although we now span two sites, the whole school ethos remains a central pillar of Moulsford. The children in Year 2 come over to the Prep School regularly for ICT, Art, Science and DT lessons and our youngest pupils the Bobcats have recently spent time in the DT room sanding and hammering wooden candleholders, which are now on display in their classroom. Mr English, Moulsford’s Head of Science, has also visited the Pre-Prep to run Science lessons.

It is not just Moulsford pupils who are benefiting from our specialist teaching. At the start of the year we launched Boogie Tots, a free music class aimed at toddlers and pre-schoolers. The classes take place in the Pre-Prep hall at Moulsford and are run by our fantastic singing teacher Josie Lunnon. We regularly have 30 children coming along for a sing and boogie! On Monday morning, we also have twelve children attending a ‘Stay and Play’ session with Cecilia McKenzie where no doubt Christmas craft will be on the agenda.

We are looking forward to welcoming Sophie O’Neill into the Pre-Prep on Friday 1st December. Sophie will be taking over from Debbie Richards in the Year 2 Leopards class in January 2024, and we will be holding an informal 'meet the teacher' from 8:30 - 9:00am in the Pre-Prep Hall.  This week, we have also welcomed Jo Lloyd to the School, who joins us as maternity cover for Caroline Scriven in Year 4. Jo will be available to meet 4Sc parents at Year 4’s pre-Concert drinks at 5.30pm on Tuesday 5th December.

And finally, it’s not just the children who’ll be providing the festive entertainment this year – look out for Mrs. Braden’s parents and staff choir at the Christmas Fair!
