A roundup of alumni achievements

Rowing

Hylton Harvey (2017) has had an eventful summer full of rowing achievement. He won a silver medal at the Junior World Championships in Varese, Italy, in the Under 19 GB Men’s 8. He also won a gold medal at Munich International for Great Britain in a Coxed 4. Hylton also got to the final of the Henley Princess Elizabeth Cup with Radley College Men’s 8. He managed all of this whilst achieving 4 A* in his A-Levels of History, French, Maths and Further Maths.

Hylton, who was at Radley,  is now training at the Leander Club for Henley Regatta 2023 ahead of official visits to Yale, Princeton, Stanford and Cal Berkeley this Autumn where he is hoping to major in Economics.

Rugby

Having just left Sherborne, Will Parry (2017) has recently been offered a full contract at Bath alongside taking up his place at Durham University. He may have the opportunity to play in some Premier Cup fixtures outside of his games for BUCS Super Rugby (the highest level of men's university rugby in Britain). Unfortunately Will’s Bath commitments meant that he was unavailable for the England Under 20s camp held in August but he hopes there will be more chances in the future.

Will also played against fellow Old Mole Monty Bradbury when Bath and London Irish second teams met recently.

Kayaking

Nico Hartwright (2022) completed the huge challenge of kayaking the length of the Thames in just eight days during the summer holidays (a feat that our own Mr Symonds and Mr Edwards have previously undertaken). Nico began at Lechlade in Gloucestershire and finished in Teddington Lock in London after spending 12 hours a day on the water during searing heat.  This was a huge achievement, which required determination and resilience and you can read more about it here.

Sports Scholarship

Congratulations to Freddie Ash (2020) who has just been awarded a Sports Scholarship at Wellington College. Wellington award scholarships to pupils throughout their time at the school to recognise hard work and achievement.

Theology Prize Winner

Old Mole Max Benster has just completed his first year at Oriel College, Oxford and was recently awarded the Faculty Preliminary Examination Prize (for the best performance in the Preliminary Examination in Theology and Religion) and the Junior Pusey and Ellerton Prize (for the best performance in Biblical Hebrew in the Preliminary Examination) by the Faculty of Theology and Religion.

Max said he was “very surprised and very happy” upon learning that he had won the prizes and is looking forward to carrying on with his studies this year.
