Celebrating 60 Years of Moulsford Prep School

A wonderful celebration was held on Saturday 9th September for the 60th anniversary of the school, with Old Mole guests spanning six decades returning with their families to re-connect with each other, meet up with current and former staff, and to enjoy a stunning sunny day back at Moulsford.

On one of the hottest days of the year, the event was a chance to re-live personal Moulsford memories.  Old school photos were on display and past school yearbook magazines available to flick through. Current staff put on activities such as archery, cricket, arts and crafts and more – although it proved to be just too hot for anyone to want to participate in the 5-a-side football!

Year 8 boys offered guided tours to our Old Mole guests who were delighted to see the many changes that have been made over the years since they left.  The new Pre-Prep building provided a real ‘wow’ factor for many, and the new Library location was given a big thumbs up!

Former Moulsford Headmaster Mike Higham and his wife Joanna attended, and gave an entertaining speech with anecdotes from his 20 years at Moulsford.

We were also delighted to welcome back two of Moulsford’s very first pupils – brothers Rod and Ken Mortimer, who were the sons of Moulsford Prep School’s founder, Mr Mortimer, who purchased the building in 1961 to set up a boys’ school, and started with only 13 boys.

With several setbacks to this event taking place, firstly the pandemic in 2021, and then the late Queen’s passing in 2022, we were very pleased to at last recognise and celebrate this important anniversary in the school’s history.

Enormous thanks go to all the support staff who helped make the event happen, especially Julie and her team for all the amazing food and delicious cakes!  Many thanks too to the Year 8 boys who came in to school on such a hot Saturday to ensure that the Old Moles were given a fantastic welcome. The Old Moles were suitably impressed by the boys’ confidence and charm in showing them around, and were delighted to hear what it’s like to be at Moulsford today.

Finally a word of encouragement to all current pupils and parents to stay in touch with the school after leaving, and join the Old Moles Connect network.  We are so fortunate to have this wonderful community, and last Saturday proved that it leaves a long-lasting impression on many lives.
