Moulsford come away with a trophy
The Bradfield hockey tournament was a big success with Moulsford winning their second hockey trophy in a week!
Ten Year 5 boys headed out on the short bus journey to Bradfield College and arrived full of energy, buoyed by Archie D-P’s soulful singing, ready for an afternoon of hockey. Before the business of the hockey tournament we were treated to a coaching masterclass. The coaches were a mixture of international players, World Cup winners and current 1st team players. The astros were split into 4 skill zones, where we picked up tips and skills that we were able to take into our matches later on. We learnt a huge amount and were very grateful for the efforts of the Bradfield staff and boys.
Bradfield is in the middle of the countryside but the facilities were amazing, with a beautiful astro turf pitch and lovely snacks provided throughout the day. The tournament started with a bang as we comfortably beat Thorngrove (3-0) and Elstree (6-0) thanks to a fine striking display from Freddie C and Wilf Q with both our keepers, Ben A and Archie D-P, keeping clean sheets in goal. The next two matches against St Andrews (1-1) and Beacon (1-1) were much harder, but we stuck to our gameplan of passing the ball around and looked comfortable on the ball throughout. Special mention to the outstanding defensive performance of Harvey C and Charlie K and everyone for working as a team to help us end the day unbeaten.
At the end we had played our hearts out only conceding 2 goals but we knew that The Beacon and St Andrews had also had good results. At the presentation The Beacon were awarded the runners up medal and the tension grew, we started to whisper to each other ‘have we won?’. The headmaster of Bradfield finally announced the winners….‘Moulsford’, we couldn’t believe it, we had won and we were presented shiny gold medals and a trophy to the cheers from our parents.
An amazing day, thank you to our coach Mr. Jones and especially to Bradfield College for taking the time and effort to put on such a great event.
