A varied and exciting fortnight of activities

Our Year 8 boys have enjoyed a fun and varied programme of activities since the end of their Common Entrance examinations.  They have gone out on trips, visited museums and enjoyed themed days of activities here at school, with a real focus on preparing them for life beyond Prep School.  Here are some of the highlights……

Personal Impact Training

The boys were visited by Jessica Haworth who ran a workshop on Personal Impact Training.  The session focused on presentation skills, building self-esteem and pushing yourself outside your comfort zone.  She helped the boys understand how the brain works in public speaking scenarios in order to help develop skills to combat stress in these situations.  It was an extremely valuable session as the boys move to their Senior Schools.

Careers Day

A number of parents came into school to describe their careers and talked about the options open to the boys in the future.  The boys heard about careers in Property, Sport and Leisure, Law, Science and the Media.

A group of Old Moles also attended and talked to the boys about the transition to Senior School and their experiences of life beyond Moulsford.

Operation Encounter

Camouflaged faces and military gear were the order of the day at Operation Encounter in Marlow.  Working in groups the boys took part in a variety of military style exercises: - concealment, leadership games, orienteering and an assault course. Each activity was practised and then completed as a time trial so there were winning teams for each activity.  It was a great way to let off steam whilst at the same learning important leadership and team work skills.

Nutrition Day

Our school nutritionist came in to talk about sports related fitness and nutrition and got them involved in some hands on activities.  She discussed many aspects of health with the boys and got them making smoothies which they sampled enthusiastically.

Forest School Camp Out

After a rainy few days, it was with some trepidation that the boys ventured off to Forest School for their annual end of year camp out.  However, the weather was kind and the boys and staff stayed relatively dry!  They sourced wood for their shelters, prepared and cooked their own supper and kept their fire alight with great skill!  We are not sure how soundly they all slept but they certainly had fun!  If the camp-out wasn’t enough, the boys then walked back to school the following morning from the site in Ipsden.  We imagine they all slept well that evening!

On top of all of that, the boys also took part in a variety of subject-themed days at school.  For the Languages Day, the MFL department, got the boys to complete fun challenges based on the countries taking part in the Women’s Football World Cup!  There were also DT, Science and Drama challenges, an Art Day encompassing a trip to the Pitt Rivers in Oxford, First Aid training and an enlightening Drugs talk.

All in all, it has been a great couple of weeks.  The boys have risen to every challenge we have set them.  What a great group!
