ADHD & Autism events
This half term, the Learning Support Department and Aimee Laming (Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist) were delighted to host our ADHD & Autism events, perfectly coinciding with Neurodiversity Celebration Week.
The central theme this term was self-advocacy. We focused on the importance of having the courage to request adjustments in real-time, whether at home or in lessons, to ensure individual needs are met. To support this, students looked at scripts to help them advocate for themselves politely and effectively, using phrases such as, "Could you show me an example of what a good answer looks like?" or, "Would it be possible for me to take a movement break now?"
We also enjoyed a fantastic turnout at our Super Sibling Breakfast, welcoming more pupils than ever before! Working in small groups, students took part in a scavenger hunt for famous "Super Siblings," which sparked meaningful conversations about different types of neurodivergence and how these siblings support one another. Finally, we touched upon self-advocacy, reinforcing that it is always okay for these pupils to ask for help and support when they need it.
It is a true privilege to work alongside such insightful, inclusive, and articulate young people.
