Fabulous guests this term

The High Performance Lunchtimes Initiative has become a regular feature of a Tuesday lunchtime for on average 40 to 50 boys in Years 5-8. Over the course of the term, they have listened to speakers with a diverse range of stories to tell. The boys have loved the opportunity to learn about life through the experiences of others. The most popular question always centres around non-negotiable behaviours that people look for in others who they surround themselves with.

The first half of term finished with Charlie Starmer-Smith and the boys loved learning about his lion attack and how much he values honesty and teamwork. Charlie even performed a song, which the boys loved. Robyn Fullerton, who has recently finished radiotherapy, gave advice to her teenage self that ‘you can’t change the cards you are dealt but you can change how you play them’ and this had a real impact on the boys. Tim Ellerton from Team GB gave the boys a real insight into the commercial side of sport. Finally, Russell Earnshaw’s advice to his teenage self that it was okay to break some rules amused the boys a lot!

This half-term began with Conor Rourke from the Barn Fitness Club in Cholsey. Conor extolled the value of empathy and also gave some wonderful advice that life will be fine if ‘Plan A’ doesn’t work!

The guests lined up for the rest of this term are as follows:

15/11- Antonia Beggs (Works in Partnerships and Fan engagement for sports events)

22/11- Walter Kerr (Oppidan Education)

29/11- Jordan Wylie (Adventurer)

6/12- Chris Davies (Rugby Coach, currently working for Harlequins)

We are always looking for people to speak to the boys. If you would like to share your story or know of some interesting and inspirational characters then please email Mr Weeks
