Visit from an Extreme Sleeper
It was great to welcome our first ‘High Performance Lunchtimes’ speaker of 2026, the extreme sleeper and travel writer, Phoebe Smith (FRGS). As the author of 11 books, Phoebe has combined her love of adventure and storytelling and made it into a unique career. She amused pupils from Years 3 to 7 with her anecdotes of sleeping inside a glacier, not being “on the menu” for a puma, dangling from the roof of Sunderland’s Stadium of Light and waking up at the top of Ben Nevis on Christmas Day. She challenged pupils to start small and take on a micro adventure themselves in 2026. She also underlined the importance of being true to yourself and “holding your shape” in today’s world.
