Year 8 Responsibilities

Walking the Walk

Leadership is a key aspect of life in Years 7 and 8, and we set the bar high for our senior pupils, as role models to younger pupils, and ambassadors for our special community. The plethora of responsibilities, particularly in Year 8, provide each child with a sense of belonging, and of course, vital experience in organisation, leading by example and showing humility, as leaders within the school. Whether as House Captains, Librarians, Prefects, Buddies to younger children, Office helpers and much more.

One of the key components to Year 8's various responsibilities as leaders within the community, involves the Year 8 children in one of the four houses being on 'clean up' duty in the Dining Hall every day for a specific week. It is a role that could be likened to New Zealand rugby's culture of leaders within the team 'cleaning the sheds' after training. The children are asked to 'walk the walk' as senior pupils, taking ownership for the cleanliness of the Dining Hall, and providing support to our wonderful kitchen and catering team. What is consistently evident, is the pride that the children show in leaving the tables, benches and floors as clean and tidy as possible. It is lovely to see the Year 8s taking these jobs so seriously and setting the tone as leaders within the school, in a way that actively benefits so many different people within the community.
