Learning about personal finance
As part of our focus on Financial Literacy, we welcomed Taya Johnson and Tasha Mulford (both former Maths teachers) from Frizzell Wealth Management to run sessions with Year 7 and 8 about personal finance. They provided an introduction to money and understanding the difference between needing something and wanting it. They explained about savings in the context of short, medium and long-term goals and took it a step further with Year 8, by explaining the importance of budgeting. It was interesting to hear them say that budgeting is important no matter how small the amount of money. It was also heartening to hear in both sessions that children were keen to donate to charity.
These sessions have been very well received and we look forward to welcoming Taya and Tasha back in the future.
Last week we welcomed Ed Pitt Ford (Author of Risk Required) to our High Performance Lunchtimes session talk about his experience with investing and the risks that sometimes occur. By his own admission, Ed had some lucky breaks in his life which enabled him to make some successful investments. The 'Risk Required' strategy is not for everyone and pupils were spoken to by teachers to emphasise that this is one viewpoint around how to manage your money.
