Leo wins the championship

Leo R in Year 8 competed in the final rounds of the British Karting Championships last weekend, driving for the Fusion Motorsports team, in the 125 cc class for drivers up to 14 years old.

Prior to the event, Leo was already in a strong position, having won 8 of the previous 13 points scoring rounds, and only needing one more maximum points score for an unassailable championship lead. Leo had been quickest in most of the practice sessions, and duly qualified in pole position for the heats. In the first heat Leo started well but was unable to draw away from the chasing pack. Although he eventually finished in 2nd position, Leo was nevertheless several places ahead of his main championship rival. In the next heat, Leo started poorly, but promptly recovered the positions lost. After 2 laps, he had established a slight lead. The chasing drivers fell further behind as they battled amongst each other, allowing Leo to win by 4 seconds. The combined result of the heats awarded Leo the final maximum points score that he needed for an unassailable championship lead.

In the remaining three races Leo only needed to avoid penalties to win the championship. He consequently raced sensibly finishing in 5th, 2nd and 3rd positions. Leo’s next race will be the International Final in Italy which takes place in the half term break.  Very Good Luck to Leo from all at Moulsford!
