Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics
We have had a fantastic STEAM Week across the school, which provided pupils with the opportunity for some cross-curricular working.
We had artwork displayed from children from Pre-Prep right up to Year 8 on the theme of Greek Creation Stories. Each pupil was asked to create a piece of artwork based on the God or Goddess linked to their House:
Amundsen – Zeus
Bering – Oceanus
Cabot – Gaia
Drake – Uranus
The creativity and range of media used was absolutely fantastic to see - from photography and ceramics, to detailed paintings, Hama beads, pencil sketches and sculptures made of Lego! The Pre-Prep children had their own display in the foyer and then all had the chance to come and view the Prep School exhibition. Thank you to every parent who has helped create and get the work to school, as well as the many staff who have made the exhibition possible. The artwork was displayed in Houses and two independent adjudicators were able to vote on their favourite and the winning House was Amundsen!
The week has been busy across the entire curriculum including a day when Year 7 pupils took part in Board Game making, Stage Combat workshops and 'Back to the Future' inspired Science. In Activities Year 3 and 4 made Greek biscuits and Year 3 enjoyed a morning of Art and Technology creating a ceramic model of Medusa and a labyrinth in DT for the Minotaur. Year 5 performed the fantastic Zeus the Musical (full report and photos will be available in next week’s Weekly Roundup) and our Year 7 and 8 Art Extension group visited the Twist Museum in London.
It has been a hugely busy and fulfilling week, once again inspiring the children and providing opportunities to be curious and creative.
