Emily Scarratt comes to Moulsford
There was huge excitement on Wednesday as we welcomed Rugby World Cup winner Emily Scarratt to Moulsford. Emily came to speak to the children in Years 3 to 8 as our 100th guest speaker for the High Performance Lunchtime series of talks. HPL is a Moulsford initiative conceived by Mr Weeks which has been going since 2021 and aims to help the Moulsford community learn about life through the experience of others.
Emily joined the excellent hosts Theo T and Benny HS from Year 8 for a Q&A where they asked her about her highs, lows, lessons learned and experiences of playing elite sport. Emily was extremely engaging and spoke with honesty about some of her disappointments and how she has been resilient and always tried to respond positively to disappointment in sport. She delivered the message that setbacks are part of growth and how you respond matters most.
There had been a lot of anticipation around the 100th speaker and Mr Weeks held an assembly last week to reflect on what the series has meant to the children.
It was lovely to hear pupils reflect on some of their favourites: Ed Jackson and his triumphs through adversity, John McAvoy and his journey from Iron Bars to Iron Man, Karen Braden and her journey from being a lawyer to then teaching music, Dodge Woodall and his ABC philosophy for young people and David Coleman and his inspirational journey to achieve his Green Beret.
Reaching the 100th HPL talk is a significant milestone and we are grateful to Mr Weeks for his never-ending commitment to providing pupils with the opportunity to learn from others. Mr Weeks was presented with some gifts in recognition of his work and a very large cake!
