A busy week of literary fun
Pupils from across the school have visited Henley Literary Festival this week to hear a variety of speakers and take part in interactive workshops.
In the Pre-Prep Year 2 joined Zanna Davidson, creator of the Izzy the Inventor and Billy and the Mini Monsters series for a magical science adventure. The children had a great time and particularly enjoyed seeing some of their classmates up on stage helping Izzy to act out the story.
The children in Reception and Year 1 joined author and TV star Andy Day (who also opened our Pre-Prep in 2022) to learn more about his book Dino Dad. As a genuine dinosaur fan himself, Andy shared his Dino Dad stories and the children loved doing their own illustrations.
Years 3 and 4 travelled back to World War Two with Dermot O’Leary whose new book features a fox who is a world-class spy along with a master code-breaker who is a chicken! Dermot really brought history alive in his brilliantly funny way and the children absolutely loved it.
Award-winning educator and star of Sky Kids’ Wonder Raps MC Grammar was on the agenda for Years 5 and 6 whose event was jam-packed with jokes, rhymes, music and even featured Mr Sage (MC Herb) up on stage rapping nursery rhymes!
The week concluded with Year 7 and 8 who listened to Sathnam Sanghera, the multi-award-winning author of Empireland, who provided an engaging and essential look at empire, its epic journeys and the rebels who resisted, from Pocahontas to Gandhi’s extraordinary Salt March, and how it continues to impact the world today.
We are so lucky to have such an exciting literary festival on our doorstep and everyone came away with a lovely book and lots of knowledge.
