Collective Voices Bring the House Down
Excitement was high for the annual ‘House Shout’ competition, following some intensive preparation and discussions over the last few weeks as Houses made their song choices. Final rehearsals were had on Tuesday before the Houses were finally unleashed for a grand performance in front of our judges, Headmaster’s PA Allie Hoo and Kevin the bus driver!
First up were Drake who gave us a ‘mixtape’ of songs beginning with a D starting with ‘Don’t Stop Movin’, then ‘Despacito’ and concluding with Dua Lipa’s ‘Dance the Night Away’. There was even some breakdancing and a cartwheel!
Cabot came next with their take on ‘Pink Pony Club’ which had become ‘Green Cobra Club’ and featured the Year 8s shedding their skin to become snakes (we think!). The staff at the back were also enjoying themselves as they joined in and Mr Finnie relished his role as chief flag waver!
Bering sung the Backstreet Boys classic ‘Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)’ with a clever modification of the lyrics to include Moulsford’s values (a sensible ploy to win over the judges!). It was a true ensemble piece.
Our final performers were Amundsen who performed a modified version of ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ with lyrics related to Jasper D and featuring Year 8s dressed in a variety of Freddie Mercury inspired outfits.
All four performances were fantastic and House spirit was extremely high but the Judges were unanimous in their decision and this year’s House Shout winners were Bering! They felt that the use of Moulsford’s values in the lyrics and how the whole House were in unison from start to finish gave them the edge. Congratulations to them and thank you to Mrs Braden, the Heads of Houses Mr Sage, Mrs Cummings, Mr Edwards and Mr McNaughton and everyone involved for their efforts on the day.
