Head's Blog Virtual Moulsford

It has been excellent to welcome Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 back to Moulsford this week and there are a number of news items in this Weekly Round-Up about their return. However, we are acutely aware that 266 boys are still working from home, and we remain extremely impressed by their continued excellent approach to Virtual Moulsford.

This ongoing situation is difficult for all boys, and particularly so for Year 8 as they enter their final weeks of their Moulsford experience. Thirty-eight of the Year 8 boys completed their Common Entrance exams this week and it was great to join them on a GoogleMeet as we marked this milestone and ate ice-cream together. Thank you to Mr. Martin (Head of Year 8) and his team for the excellent, creative and innovative Leavers’ Programme which starts on Monday.

At present, we have no further information on Government plans for more year groups to return to school. A ministerial answer to a parliamentary question from 1st June confirms that there is no room for diverting from current government advice, and this has been confirmed by the school’s insurers. That said, we will continue to study the guidance closely, and if we are able to open up Moulsford to other year groups, we will do so. In particular, we know how important a proper farewell will be for the Year 8 boys.

Some of you may have seen my assembly this morning, which focussed on the Hubble telescope. I am very grateful to Winchester College and in particular to the Chaplain, the Revd Justin White for allowing us to use an extract from his talk. To see the full talk given by Justin, please click here
