Scholarship Results

We received our final scholarship results last week from our senior schools and this completed a fabulous set of results for Moulsford. Enormous congratulations not only to all our successful candidates (pictured above) who have worked so hard for their awards, but also to all those who stepped out of their comfort zones to put themselves forward for scholarships. We regularly remind the children that this process is about the journey not just the result, and all who have been involved will have gained hugely from their experiences. The Maths department has been very busy with many boys successfully competing in the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge, which sees participation from over 300,000 children each year. At the beginning of May, some 60 Moulsford boys across Years 7 and 8 took part in this Junior Maths Challenge, which is a 60-minute, multiple-choice Challenge comprising 25 questions. The problems on the Junior Mathematical Challenge are designed to make pupils really think, and encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.

To recognize the highest performers in the Challenge, the top-scoring 50% of participants are awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates in the ratio 3:2:1, and the top scoring 1,000 – 1,200 students qualify to sit the Junior Olympiad. Around the next 10,000 qualify to sit the Junior Kangaroo.

The results at Moulsford were excellent and all boys should be very proud of themselves with 7 Gold certificates (scoring 91+), 17 silver certificates (scoring 73+) and 17 bronze certificates (scoring 54+).

The following boys were awarded a Gold Certificate;

In Year 8; Theodore L, Sam A, Sebastian Y

In Year 7; Freddie R-C, Angus W, Alexander M-C, Ben P

Freddie R- C qualifies for the Junior Maths Olympiad having scored 130 out of 135 (the highest score in the school).

Theo L, Sam A, and Angus W all qualify for the Junior Kangaroo Challenge. Both take place on 10th June.

Congratulations to all of the boys who took part.
