Cricket in the torrential ran is a challenge, and thank you to the games staff for their creativity with this afternoon’s sports programme, and for making excellent use of the shelter provided by the sports hall and the marquee. The sixty-four boys signed up for the Moulsford 2024 South Africa Rugby Tour will be hoping for dryer and warmer conditions when they depart for the southern hemisphere next April.

Between now and the tour, a key focus of the school’s charitable fundraising will be to support ‘Inspire Children and Youth’, a charity based in the Riebeeksrivier Valley, north of Cape Town in South Africa. ‘Inspire’ provides food, shelter, washing facilities and a range of activities/projects on rural farms to build confidence and help restore human dignity. The charity was founded by a group of passionate, energetic and determined women and children to inspire rural people to achieve, and create safe spaces for children and young people to thrive.

Moulsford has longstanding connections with ‘Inspire’. The 2018 tour visited the charity, and the 2020 tour raised over £30K for Inspire, although the tour itself did not go ahead due to the pandemic. The 2024 tourists will spend a day working with the ‘Inspire’ community, and seeing first-hand the impact that the funds from the 2020 ‘tour’ have had. The rugby tour gives the chance for new friendships to be forged and for our boys to enjoy the sporting hurdles that the local opposition will no doubt throw at them. Our collaboration with ‘Inspire’ gives the whole Moulsford community the opportunity to make a real difference to many young lives in South Africa.

We are extremely grateful to Alex Bonney, a Moulsford parent, who is very kindly leading and co-ordinating Moulsford’s fundraising for Inspire. Please can I draw your attention to three exciting events to look forward to over the next six months, and encourage our whole community to support them, particularly those families who have boys on the tour.

  • Sunday 11th June - Ridgeway Rhino Cycle Ride. This is a fantastic morning out, followed by a BBQ at school. It is open to boys and parents in Years 5 and above. For more details, pleases see the Week Ahead.
  • Saturday 16th September – Moulsfest is back, and this year will incorporate the Moulsford Mudder. This will be our third home grown festival, and promises to be another wonderful afternoon of family fun. Further details will follow.
  • Friday 17th November – RAC Sporting Lunch. We are delighted to be welcoming back David Flatman, who will be hosting our ninth visit to the RAC on Pall Mall. Flats’ guest will be England International Emily Scarratt, who has won over 100 caps for the Red Roses. Historically this event has been largely the preserve of Moulsford Dads, but please note that Mums are extremely welcome. Please click here for further information.

Thank you again to Alex Bonney and her committee for all they are doing to create wonderful events for us all, and most importantly for generating funds which will make a real difference to the women and children at Inspire. If you would like to be involved in helping Alex and her team, please email [email protected]
