Year 3 become Vikings for the day
On Tuesday, Year 3 visited Ufton Court to learn all about the Vikings. We were excited to train like real Viking warriors and experience life in a Viking village. First, we formed a shield wall, standing shoulder to shoulder to protect our jarl (teacher). We held our shields tightly, marched forward bravely and worked together as a team.
In the village, we tried a range of Viking jobs. We brushed wool, struck flint and steel to make sparks, ground grain into flour using a heavy millstone, wove canes for house walls and even tried milking goats. We were surprised by how hard people had to work each day.
In the afternoon, we climbed into a Viking longship and imagined rowing across the sea on a raid to collect supplies and treasure. It was an exciting and unforgettable day, and we learned that Viking life was busy, challenging and full of teamwork.
