Head's Blog: New Year and New Challenges

Head's Blog

What a magical start we had to the Spring term, with snow falling as the children returned to Moulsford on Tuesday. Since then, it’s been non-stop action and we have packed so much into this week, including Year 6 visiting Silverstone, Wednesday’s House Matches, 8O’s Mock Scholarship exams, setting New Year’s resolutions in the Pre-Prep, a Moulsford Foundation meeting last night, and an axe-throwing tutorial (yes - you read that correctly) for 8E and 8M today. It’s great to be back, and your children have started 2026 with exactly the right attitude.

The Foundation meeting was a wonderful opportunity to see parents of Old Moles stretching back to the early 2000s, and it was excellent to reconnect with these families and hear all that their children are up to. A more recent leaver is Harry E who relocated with his family to Cornwall in July 2024. Harry, now in Year 7, always had a passion for marine life and the oceans and you may remember him selling his hand drawn cards at previous Christmas Fairs. Harry’s mother contacted me yesterday to let me know that Harry’s determination and drive to make a difference to our world continues, and of her gratitude to the Moulsford community for supporting his initial interest in this field. Harry’s story has been picked up by the BBC, please click the links for a radio interview and a website article.

Jake and Chantal Albon will be stepping out of their roles in the Boarding House at the end of this academic year after four years at the helm. During this time, they have collectively given outstanding leadership to Moulsford boarding, building on the excellent legacies of both the Symonds and the Nobles before them. Moulsford boarding continues to thrive, and a key feature of Jake and Chantal's tenure has been the wonderful atmosphere they have created both for the children and the boarding staff, who have supported them so well. We will keep parents updated on who will be leading the Moulsford Boarding House from September 2026.
