Head's Blog: Relationships with Senior Schools

Head's Blog

Moulsford’s relationships with our senior schools are so important, and we seek to develop these in many different ways.

This week, a group of our Year 5 pupils spent a morning at Pangbourne College for an Adventure Challenge experience and came away with the spoils – well done them! I followed them to Pangbourne in the afternoon, and along with other prep school heads, navigated the high ropes course, learnt the basics of archery and completed the College’s assault course. It was a great way to spend the afternoon, while also building relationships with both Pangbourne and other prep school heads. It is also very good to be reminded what it feels like to be pushed outside of our comfort zone, as this is a place we encourage Moulsford children to go.

I equally enjoyed a visit to Reading Blue Coat last week catching up with Old Moles, and the Head, Pete Thomas, whose three boys were at Moulsford. This was a more standard school visit with no protective gear necessary!  Links with the all girls’ schools are extremely important to us and I’m looking forward to attending a Downe House event at the House of Lords shortly, having visited St Helen & St Katharine’s earlier this year.

In addition, our pupils have recently enjoyed events at Wellington, Stowe, Bloxham, Magdalen College School and Queen Anne’s, with more upcoming at Cokethorpe, Radley and The Oratory.  At the end of term, we look forward to welcoming the Head of Rugby School, Gareth Parker-Jones, who will be attending Prize Giving.

Moulsford’s depth of relationship with such a wide range of senior schools is incredibly important in developing strong links to ease the onward pathway for your children.  It is also an excellent experience for the children to visit other schools and pick up on the atmosphere for themselves.

We look forward to welcoming Queen Anne’s pupils tonight for the seniors’ disco, and to seeing many of our Year 3 and Pre-Prep families for a morning of exploration tomorrow at our ‘Adventure into the Wild’ themed event.  Fingers crossed for sunshine!
