Creative Cross-Curricular Projects

The Year 7 boys have been busy this week presenting their Dragons Den projects to a panel of scary Dragons in the theatre. It was great to be back doing this in person after the boys presented remotely in 2020. Working in pairs, the boys were challenged with marketing a new product, idea or invention. The presentations this week were the culmination of a lot of hard work and effort over the term. As part of our aim to tie in subjects across the curriculum, the work was carried out in their ICT, Design Technology, Drama and Art lessons and in each discipline a different aspect of the project was pursued.

  • In ICT they carried out Market Research and created a website to market their product. They have also handled the finances of their company using spreadsheets, written and prepared their presentation.
  • In Design Technology they created a ‘design board’, promotional gifts or in some instances a prototype of their invention.
  • In Art and Drama they created a short promotional advert, filming and editing their work in iMovie.

The boys have worked incredibly hard throughout the process and they all confidently pitched to the panel of 'Dragons' who threw some tough questions their way!  However, there were lots of investments made and the excitement at making deals was evident.  There were some really innovative ideas and a special mention must go to Harrison R and Henry N who came up with a new way of creating energy by burning fuel using remnants of crops that were turned into pellets – a really fascinating pitch!

Our thanks go to the staff who played the role of ‘Dragons’, giving up their valuable time and playing such an important part in the process.  For some it was their first time on the panel but they really seemed to relish the role.

Well done to the boys for all of their hard work.
