MECE Oxfordshire Championships

Moulsford enjoyed a spectacular afternoon at the MECE Oxfordshire County Championships, retaining the overall trophy and securing all boys’ team individual cups across five thrilling races. It was a dominant display of determination, teamwork and resilience — and a proud day for the school.

This year also marked a significant milestone in Moulsford’s sporting history, as we entered our first ever Under 8 Girls’ team, building on last year’s landmark moment when Maya C became the school’s first female competitor at the event. It was wonderful to see the girls competing so strongly on the county stage.
The Under 8 Boys kicked off the competitive races in style after enthusiastically supporting the junior year groups earlier in the afternoon. Freddie J stormed to an outstanding 1st place finish, while Xander R-C secured a superb 3rd place podium position. With several Moulsford runners finishing inside the top 10, the team set the tone for the afternoon in emphatic fashion.

The newly formed Under 8 Girls’ team ran with great determination. In a tightly contested race, the girls finished strongly as a pack, with Shekinah S producing an excellent run to finish 4th overall. The team were just two points shy of winning the team competition — an incredibly promising start to our girls’ cross country journey and a sign of exciting things to come this season.

The Under 9 Boys delivered another superb team performance, demonstrating excellent pacing and teamwork. Joshua R earned a well-deserved podium finish in 3rd place, while Jonny ON showed impressive race awareness to secure 4th. Strong pack running once again proved decisive in ensuring team success.
In what appeared to be a sea of red jerseys, the Under 10 Boys represented the school with determination and spirit. Wilbur L led the way with a brilliant 2nd place finish in a thrilling contest, supported by a strong squad of committed runners who ensured another successful team outcome.

The final race of the day provided a dramatic conclusion. Bailey M ran superbly, narrowly being pipped on the line to finish 2nd, while Joshua B secured 3rd place after a powerful run. Their efforts pushed the team to victory and capped off a remarkable afternoon for Moulsford.

It was a tremendous collective effort from every runner. Thank you to all the boys and girls who competed and stayed to support their teammates — your team spirit was exemplary.

Moulsford were superbly represented throughout the event and were proud to reclaim the silverware for the third consecutive year. Mrs Braden, Mr Sheppard and I were immensely proud of all our runners.

Well done, Team Moulsford!
