MPL Festival Celebrates Inclusive Cricket

On Wednesday, Moulsford was delighted to host the third annual MPL Festival, an event dedicated entirely to inclusive sport and providing opportunities for all pupils to enjoy competitive cricket.

This year, four schools took part: Dragon School, Summer Fields, Magdalen College School (MCS) and Moulsford. With each school entering three teams, the festival featured 12 teams divided into three pools of four.

The unique format of the festival ensured that children from each school's B, C and D teams were mixed together, creating balanced and competitive teams throughout the day. Matches were played in a T8 format, with every player required to bowl and a rolling batting order used throughout the tournament. This meant that every boy had the opportunity to contribute with the bat, ensuring maximum participation and involvement across the festival.

The cricket on display was highly competitive, with excellent skill, teamwork and sportsmanship evident throughout the day. Following the morning's group matches and a well-earned lunch, teams were reseeded and played crossover fixtures against teams from different pools, creating fresh challenges and exciting contests.

The scale of the festival was reflected in some impressive statistics, with an incredible 24 matches, 3,588 runs scored and 200 wickets taken across the day. More importantly, however, the festival showcased the enjoyment and enthusiasm of pupils who embraced the opportunity to represent their schools and contribute to their teams.

At the presentation, staff from each team nominated a 'Player of the Day' who best embodied their school's values both on and off the field. During the presentation, each recipient received a match ball and spoke about their team's experiences during the day. Moulsford's Players of the Day were Arthur A, Max G and Fraser S.

A huge thank you must go to our site team for preparing the pitches and providing lunch, to the staff who umpired and supported throughout the day, and, most importantly, to all the boys for their outstanding play, effort and behaviour.

The MPL Festival is a wonderful showcase of the 'Sport for All' ethos that lies at the heart of school sport. Providing children of all abilities with the opportunity to shine on the sports field is something every school should strive for, and Moulsford was proud to play its part in delivering another highly successful and memorable festival.
