Characteristics of Effective Learning

Term has started with a burst of activity and sunshine, and we are embarking on an exciting and busy few weeks ahead.

This term is always a particularly exciting one, especially as the children are now so well established and confident in their surroundings. We are beginning a range of engaging transition activities for the Year 2 children, including Drama, Sport, and assemblies, all designed to give them as many opportunities as possible to experience day to day life in the Prep and to spend time mixing with the children in the year above.

The Bobcats are also expanding their horizons and this morning had a wonderful morning among the bluebells at our Ipsden Forest School site, with plenty of time to stretch their legs and explore their beautiful surroundings. Our curriculum topics this term continue to ignite awe and wonder in our surroundings and learning is embedded throughout the day with as many opportunities as possible to get outside!

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which includes Pre-School and Reception, is designed around the Characteristics of Effective Learning. We know that children learn best through active exploration and curiosity, sustaining focus and persistence when they find activities meaningful. They also develop their ability to think, plan, and solve problems through play and interaction with others.

The Summer term creates the perfect environment for us to provide these meaningful activities for the children so that we can build and nurture independent, confident, and reflective learners ready for the changes which lie ahead!
