We have had a fabulous start to term, and it is super to have the children back at Moulsford. Their energy, fun and curiosity is infectious, and we have been so impressed by how swiftly everyone has settled back after the summer break. As ever, it is a particular joy to welcome new children to the School, and also a very special step for those who are making the transition from Year 2 to Year 3. We are also especially excited to have a co-educational Year 3 and are delighted to welcome girls to the Prep School.

Ensuring that our Moulsford ethos and values are embedded for all children is central to the School’s success, and our Year 7s and 8s, who are at the other end of their Moulsford educational journey, play a pivotal role in this. As leaders of the School, if they are living out and modelling our values on a daily basis, this is an extraordinarily powerful message for the younger children. We want to ensure that this is not left to chance, and for the first two days of term, we took our Year 7 and 8s off timetable to give them a bespoke training programme in leadership, values and role modelling. We were so impressed by how they responded, and the feedback from both them and the staff has been extremely positive.

Two ‘modules’ were particularly heart-warming to observe: first, all of Year 8 spent a breaktime in the Pre-Prep, where they played and chatted with the younger children. It was such a joy to witness these hugely valuable interactions, and to see the start of lovely friendships forming which we will ensure are nurtured during this year.

Second, our Year 7s and Year 3s were introduced to the ‘Buddy’ system, by which the younger children are assigned an older mentor. Time was put aside so that these were really meaningful first meetings, and it was so special to see our Year 7s guiding their smaller charges around the prep site, explaining how the School works, and introducing them to the office staff, the matrons and others.  The initial signs are that we have a very strong Year 7 and 8, who understand the responsibilities they have as guardians of Moulsford’s values and all that is special about our School.
