Of all the campaigns we support at Moulsford, Anti-Bullying Week is one that stands out as especially important. It offers a valuable opportunity to highlight the impact of bullying and to raise awareness amongst our pupils. This year’s national theme is ‘Power for Good,’ and focuses on empowering children to take positive action to counter the harm and hurt that bullying can cause.
Throughout the week pupils have taken part in a range of activities from Odd Socks Day to sending positive postcards to one another and to staff. This wonderful initiative, introduced by Katie Beardall, Head of LFL, has been hugely successful, with daily deliveries of uplifting messages spreading kindness across the school. Pupils in Years 3–8 are also completing the ‘Feeling Safe’ survey, as I am keen to ensure we listen carefully to their views about school life and their experiences. I look forward to sharing the results with you next term. We also enjoyed an Anti-Bullying Week Assembly from 5GS this morning which highlighted how we can support one another at Moulsford.
As parents, you are a vital part of the effort to tackle bullying. You play a unique role in guiding and supporting your child throughout their school journey and there are many positive steps you can take to help keep them safe from bullying and harm. In line with the Anti-Bullying Week theme, encouraging your children to recognise that power, when used positively, can be a force for good, by promoting kindness, support and standing up for others, is an essential part of this.
Equally, it is important to help children understand that power must be used with care. It should never be a tool to dominate or manipulate others, but rather a means to empower those around us, promote respect and foster kindness. Together we all play a crucial role in modelling respectful behaviour. Children and young people look to us for guidance and they learn as much from what we do as from what we say.
