Head's Blog: What a half term!

Head's Blog

This has been such a positive first half of term, with so much being achieved by your children in so many different areas of the school.

I’ve often referenced that it is our eldest children who set the tone for school life, and Years 7 & 8 have done us proud over the past seven weeks. They have been outstanding role models, have set standards and expectations high, and have ‘got it right’. The result is that their younger peers have responded in kind.  This strong and nurturing relationship between the year groups has been evident throughout the term, but was particularly apparent in the two evening concerts this week, which involved roughly eighty children from Years 3 – 8. It was so lovely to see the senior children supporting and guiding the younger ones in the string and percussion ensembles and the two choirs. There is so much talent coming through and plenty of opportunity, and it is super to see the more experienced children training up our youngsters: the future for Moulsford music is very exciting.

This term has also marked a historic time for the school, as we’ve welcomed our first girls to the Prep School. It’s been a resounding success and my thanks to all the staff and parents for making this transition so smooth, and to all the children in Year 3 for such a great start to the year. Of course this half-term has not been without its challenges. On behalf of all the staff who work so hard for your children, I would like to express our enormous thanks to all parents for the numerous supportive emails and conversations following the ISI news. We have really appreciated your support and are heartened that so many of you took the trouble to write, especially when we know how busy you all are. Thank you!

One fellow Head once told me that if you’re having a bad day, go and spend some time with your Pre-School children. It turns out that they were absolutely right! I was so warmly welcomed by the children to the Pre-Prep Halloween Lunch today, for what was a properly spooky experience, and I was presented with a ghoulish biscuit by one of the girls – yum, yum! Thank you to the Parents Association, and particularly to Jess Haworth, Clare Agazarian, Lucy Hooper and Lauren Bateman, for organising this wonderful event.

We do hope that your children have a restful half-term break and we look forward to welcoming you all back for an action packed second half of term.
