Year 7 host a moving and memorable Remembrance Day Service

Our Remembrance Service was held in the Sports Hall, led by members of Year 7.  The service began with a reminder that Remembrance honours those who serve to defend our freedoms and way of life. Remembrance does not glorify war and its symbol, the red poppy, is a sign of both Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future.

We welcomed Colonel Chris Samuel, who was interviewed by Charlie M, Hector M and Eddison B about his experiences in the Royal Marines and what Remembrance means to him personally. He spoke about his reasons for joining the armed forces and gave advice to those considering a similar path. Chris also talked about who he remembers on this day and the very personal stories from his career.

The Junior Choir performed ‘Somewhere’ from West Side Story, a song which speaks of comfort and support, as we remember and honour those who served and those who continue to do so around the world. The Senior Choir then sung Dona nobis Pacem, a choral blessing that reflects our hope for comfort, peace, and eternal rest. You can hear the performances here

The whole Moulsford community joined together for the traditional one-minute’s silence after ‘The Last Post’ and we had prayers from Reverend Rebecca Peters, along with readings delivered by members of Year 7. The service concluded with the hymn Abide with Me.

Attended by the whole Prep school, along with Years 1 and 2, this act of Remembrance struck a chord with both pupils and staff.  Our thanks to our guests for joining us and sharing their experiences, to Mr Johnston for the planning and to the Music Department for putting together such a moving and memorable Remembrance Day Service.
