VE Day Assemblies this week
On the 80th anniversary of VE Day it was fantastic to have 4B present an Assembly about victory in Europe and how the nation celebrated back in 1945, as well as explaining how the occasion has been marked this May. They described what a street party would have been like and told us what each of them are thankful for (chocolate and football featured heavily!). They finished by telling the audience how grateful we all are to have our freedom, thanks to those who fought in the Second World War. The Assembly concluded with a prayer and a minute’s silence to remember all those who fought.
This Assembly followed on from Mr Beardmore-Gray’s earlier in the week where he talked to the school about a personal story from World War Two – his own mother’s. During the war she was separated from her parents for five years and their only means of communication was through letters, some of which he shared with pupils. It was fascinating to hear the human impact of war from a different perspective and the children and staff found it very powerful.
