Bug hotels and Wildflowers
One of my favourite activities since joining Moulsford has been sitting on the bank in the playground, spending hours alongside the children building bug hotels. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed observing their creativity—and joining in when invited! We've had long and thoughtful discussions about what a bug might need to feel safe, warm, and at home. Much like the children, I now find myself regularly checking in on our minibeast neighbours during playtimes and after school activities.
Earlier this term, I casually mentioned after lunch that it might be a good idea to avoid playing on the left-hand side of the bank, so the wildflowers could grow undisturbed. I explained how they provide beauty for us to enjoy, pollen for the bees, and shelter for insects. To my absolute delight, the children took this on board almost immediately. Now, the area is bursting with beautiful ox-eye daisies, which adorn the bank and look quite stunning!
Thank you to everyone—yet another wonderful example of how caring for the environment and all creatures great and small, is such an important part of being a pupil in the Pre-Prep!
