Poppies and Remembrance

For our Pre-Prep Remembrance Service, we began by listening to Nimrod played by a military band and the children listened beautifully. We then talked about why we wear poppies at this time of year. The children were able to tell me that it was because of people who died in the war. I further explained to them that this was part of the reason but we also remember service men and women who have been to war and not only died but may have been injured. We watched a video explaining the origin of the poppy and how they are made. This was followed by a 2-minute silence. I have to say this was a very moving moment, from Pre-School to Year 2 not one child spoke. Everyone gave the time to think about those service people who have been to war to help; our country, people in need and the world. I was very proud of the whole Pre-Prep. To end our service we watched the Cbeebies animation simply called Poppies which is absolutely beautiful and I recommend watching it if you haven't already seen it.
