First Half of the Summer Term
It was a bumper start to the Summer term at Moulsford, with an incredible breadth and depth of sporting activity across all year groups. In the first 5 weeks, the pupils participated in an impressive 96 cricket fixtures, with every child from Years 3 to 8 representing the school in over 28 different teams. It was fantastic to see such full and enthusiastic participation.
On the cricket front, 29 pupils earned a place in the prestigious Team of the Term, and 9 Lionhearts were awarded in Thursday assemblies for outstanding commitment and sportsmanship. Celebrating individual milestones, 6 mini bats were presented to boys scoring 50 runs or more in a single game.
There were some standout team performances too. Our U10A side remained unbeaten during their festival at Stowe, while the U11A team were crowned County Cup champions in a thrilling final away at the Magdalen College Festival. Meanwhile, the 1st XI finished runners-up at the Bloxham Festival on a scorching Monday afternoon—an excellent achievement in a competitive field.
Away from the cricket pitch, tennis has flourished. Our U13 LTA team won their county league, securing three wins from three. Social tennis has also gone from strength to strength, with regular Monday and Thursday fixtures seeing great levels of participation and enjoyment.
It’s also been a term of variety and opportunity in sport. The U10BCD groups enjoyed a brilliant day of multi-sport activities at the Oratory Schools’ Sports Day, and our annual Moulsford Triathlon saw all 277 pupils from Years 3 to 8 take part—an outstanding whole-school effort.
In the pool, our younger swimmers made history as the U8 and U9 children hosted Moulsford’s first swimming gala. Our U10–U13 swimmers also competed with great spirit at galas held at Oratory Prep and Caldicott. We are delighted that 8 boys qualified for the IAPS Swimming Nationals at the London Aquatic Centre and we wish them the very best on 7th June when they travel to compete.
Golf has also teed off this term, with our Juniors enjoying a fixture against St Mary’s at The Oratory and the Seniors claiming silverware by winning the Cothill Jug at Radley College.
Finally, our Athletics programme is up and running, with Year 5 and 6 boys attending the Radley College Athletics Meet before half term. We now look ahead with excitement to the upcoming district event after half term in Stourport.
With such a packed calendar, it’s important to acknowledge the efforts of those who help make this all possible. A sincere thank you to our grounds, catering, and maintenance teams, and to all the staff whose energy and enthusiasm for school sport continue to drive our success. Thanks also go to the pupils for their dedication and the parents for their unwavering support on the sidelines.
We look forward to an exciting and action-packed second half of the Summer term!
